Quotables

Some memories from recent years reflect how Myron’s quick wit lasted until almost the very end…

May 2015 (at Anji’s birthday dinner):
Anji to Myron: Thanks for making me 55 years ago.
Myron: That was a long time ago. I couldn’t do it now.

July 2016 (While driving Myron to Falls Park to sit on a bench and watch people go by, which was one of his favorite things to do in his last years):
Myron: I’m an old parkhand. People find me wandering around the park late at night.

Fall 2016 (Elka and Myron at the allergist’s office):
Doctor: Myron, are you still active?
(Elka nods no at the same time Myron nods yes.)
Elka to Myron: Myron, when you say you’re active, what do you mean?
Myron: Breathe.

October 2017 (at dinner table):
Elka: Could you put that trivet in the middle of the table?
(Myron does this)
Anji: Good job!
Myron: I’m all worn out.

(Myron impatient about how long it’s taking for Elka to serve dinner):
Myron: I’m not the waiting kind!

(And post-dinner):
Myron: I’m a well-fed gent! My cheeks are red!

(And during dessert):
Anji: Dad, how come you eat dessert slowly (because he eats the dinner so quickly!)?
Myron: Because I’m in touch with God. God eats slowly. He chews his food.

April 2018 (Myron on a scale at the doctor’s office):
Elka: You’ve lost a lot of weight!
Myron: Where’s the rest of me?

February 2019 (living room):
Elka: Myron, do you want to eat something, or to go to bed, or to wait a bit?
Myron: (sitting quietly for so long that Elka thought he was asleep)
“He who sits and waits has a big life ahead of him.”
